Introduction
You know that rush of excitement when you discover a new tool that makes your life so much easier? That was me when I first stumbled upon AI-generated images. It was February 2023, and I was wide-eyed, ready to disrupt my GatherIn blog, YouTube channel, and the world with the power of algorithms. The future was here, and I was riding the waveâuntil I wasnât. Let me walk you through my wild journey with AI-generated images, a journey that went from âWow!â to âMeh!â faster than I could say âMidJourney.â
Phase 1: The Honeymoon Stage
It was love at first sight.
âAwesome, no longer need to order custom made illustrations on Fiverr for my blog!â
I had visions of saving money, skipping the whole âwaiting for freelancersâ game, and having my blog posts and YouTube thumbnails look like they were crafted by some digital Picasso. I was grinning ear to ear. I felt like I had discovered a secret weapon, like I had a personal assistant who could read my mind and turn my abstract thoughts into visual masterpieces. No more Fiverr? Sign me up Midjourney!
Phase 2: The Creative Genius Delusion
As my confidence grew, so did my delusions of grandeur.
âMy content will be so awesome and unique, making thumbnails mind-blowing on my YouTube music channel and blog.â
My YouTube thumbnails were âchefâs kiss.â My blog? Visually stunning. I imagined people gasping in awe as they scrolled through my posts, wondering how I got these mind-blowing images that were surely the work of some artistic deity. Every time I generated an image, I felt like Iâd struck gold.
âLook at this one! Itâs like the Mona Lisa but with AI!â I probably said out loud to nobody. In my head, I was untouchable, an innovator on the cutting edge of content creation.
Phase 3: The âOh⊠Everyoneâs Doing Itâ Realization
Then it happened. The bubble burst.
âOk, now everybody is doing the same.â
Like when your favorite indie band suddenly becomes mainstream, AI-generated images became⊠well, everywhere. My unique secret weapon had been outed. You couldnât throw a digital rock without hitting a post on LinkedIn or Instagram plastered with AI-generated graphics. My once mind-blowing blog thumbnails? Just another drop in an endless sea of AI creations.
I started to feel less like a creative genius and more like Iâd joined the masses. Everyone was creating AI art, and suddenly, my unique edge started to dull. I was one of them. I needed something new to stay ahead of the game.
Phase 4: AI Overload
As I scrolled through my feeds, I noticed something. AI-generated images were flooding the internet.
âOK, getting a bit boring now. Everybody is flooding YouTube and social media posts on LinkedIn with AI generated images.â
I had seen it all. The same âcreativeâ interpretations of random phrases, the never-ending parade of vaguely familiar surrealism. What was once magical had become mundane. Every corner of the internet was being bombarded with AI-created visuals, and not just from bloggers like meâoh no, this was on LinkedIn, Facebook, even email newsletters. Every digital space was saturated with those slick, often too-perfect images.
It was like going to a party where everyone was wearing the exact same outfit. Sure, it was cool at first, but now itâs just uncomfortable.
Phase 5: The AI Breakup
Iâd had enough. It wasnât them, it was me.
âI had enough, going to cancel my MidJourney subscription.â
The excitement had faded, and I felt stuck creatively. I knew I had to do something, so I made the big decision: I canceled my AI image subscription. Yep, I gave up the tool that had once thrilled me. AI-generated images had lost their magic, and I needed a fresh start.
Phase 6: Back to Basics
With my digital romance with AI over, I found myself in the arms of an old friend: Canva.
âBack to Canva, creating basic, minimalistic illustrations with Canva.â
I never thought Iâd be so happy to return to Canvaâs simple drag-and-drop design, but here I was. It was like moving back to your hometown after trying to make it in the big city. I had gone full circle, and to be honest, it felt pretty good. Minimalist designs, clean lines, and, most importantly, no more AI overload.
What Did I Learn?
You know, thereâs a lesson in all of this. Sometimes, itâs not about chasing the newest shiny tool. Sometimes, itâs about sticking with what works for you. AI-generated images? Cool for a while, but at the end of the day, creativity is about more than just cranking out visuals with a fancy tool. Itâs about having fun, exploring ideas, and putting your own spin on things. And letâs be honestâif everyoneâs doing the same thing, how unique are we, really?
Would I go back to AI-generated images? Maybe. But for now, Iâm happy in my little Canva corner of the internet. Itâs not flashy, but itâs home.
In Short: I got super excited about AI-generated images, thought I was a creative genius, then realized everyone else was doing the same thing. Now, Iâm back to Canva and loving the simplicity. Sometimes less is more.
